Cottage Theatre announces auditions for Assassins
Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre will hold auditions for Assassins on Sunday, June 22 and Monday, June 23 at 6:30 pm both nights. This musical, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman, premiered at Playwrights Horizons in New York City in 1990, and was produced on Broadway in 2004, winning five Tony Awards. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove.
Bold, original, disturbing, and alarmingly funny, Assassins is among the most controversial musicals ever written. This quintessentially American show lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a historical revue that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. This show contains mature themes and language.
A cast of 14 (10 men, 3 women, 1 boy age 8-10) is needed for this production. Assassins will run for 10 performances from October 3 - 19, 2014.Tony Rust is the director.
These auditions are open to any interested actors and no appointment is necessary. Actors are asked to prepare 18 bars of a song in the style of Sondheim, and bring music for the pianist. Actors should also come prepared to give a 1-minute monologue. For more information, please visit www.cottagetheatre.org or contact Cottage Theatre at (541)942-8001.
