JOIN A PRODUCTION CREWThe true heart of community theatre lies behind the scenes, where willing volunteers pitch in to create the magic effects that bring stories to life on our stage. We have lots of ways for you to join a production crew at Cottage Theatre, whether you have just a couple of hours on a weekend afternoon to contribute or want to be at every performance of a show. Read the brief descriptions below then get in touch with us if you'd like to learn more. We'd love to welcome you to our growing family of tech volunteers.
Stage Crew: Stage Crew members are an integral part of the running of most of our productions, especially large musicals. Their job begins a couple of weeks before opening night and continues through strike following the final performance. Jobs range from moving scenery to pulling curtains to assisting with quick costume changes.
Set Painting: We have painting work for all skill levels, both novice painters and experienced scenic artists. Most of our painting work happens on the weekends leading up to opening night. Set Construction: There is plenty of measuring and sawing and drilling to be done to create our sets. If you are handy with tools, this is the team for you. Set construction work happens in the weeks leading up to opening night, mostly on the weekends. Costumes: If you like to sew (and/or hunt for bargains at Goodwill) then we’d love your help with costumes. Your involvement can range from simply sewing an apron or two all the way up to taking the lead in designing a show. Props: This is hunting and gathering work at its most creative. People who like to find things and people who like to make things will find plenty of work helping with props. Lighting: We need a light board operator for all shows and spotlight operators for most shows. Lighting crew members begin work a couple of weeks before opening night and are present at all performances. Sound: If you’ve got a good ear, then helping to run sound might be the task for you. Each production needs a sound board operator who controls sound effects and monitors microphone levels. This person needs to be available from tech week through all performances. Interested in knowing more? Just fill out the form on the right and we’ll get in touch with you soon.
