INTO THE WOODS

She Loves Me
July 31 - August 22, 2009
Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
Based on Classic Fairy Tales
Into the Woods is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Directed by Peg Major

An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? They're among the cockeyed characters in this fractured fairy tale. When a baker and his wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell. Into the woods they go, swindling, lying to, and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). What begins as a lively, irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children. This highly-lauded show received multiple Tony Awards, including "Best Score" and "Best Book", as well as the Drama Desk award for "Best Musical", following its 1988 Broadway premiere.
