THE SPITFIRE GRILL

Pump Boys and Dinettes
August 10 - 26, 2012
Music & Book by James Valcq, Lyrics & Book by Fred Alley, Based on the Film by Lee David Zlotoff
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Directed by Tony Rust

This heartwarming 2001 musical is about finding hope in the unlikeliest of places. A young woman, just released on parole after spending five years in prison, makes a fresh start in a small town in rural Wisconsin. The local sheriff finds a place for her working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill. The restaurant is for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy suggests to Hannah that she raffle it off. The entry fee is $100 and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full and things are definitely cookin' at the Spitfire Grill.  “A soul-satisfying new musical . . . . The songs are shiny with tunefulness, hope and all- American inflections of country and folk.” – The New York Times.
