![]() For Immediate Release May 11, 2015 Contacts: Susan Goes, Executive Director, 541-942-8001 Cottage Theatre announces auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre will hold auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar, by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, on Saturday, June 13 at 1:00 pm and Sunday, June 14 at 6:30 pm. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. A large cast is needed for this rock musical about the Passion of Christ. Jesus Christ Superstar will run for four weekends at Cottage Theatre beginning October 2, 2015. This energetic rock musical has at its center a religious leader who is a social and political rebel. Jesus Christ’s meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As Christ’s teachings are embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge, and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart. A large cast of up to 40 actors (ages 14-70) is needed for this production directed by Tony Rust. Jesus Christ Superstar will run for 15 performances from October 2 - 25, 2015. These auditions are open to any interested actors and no appointment is necessary. Actors should prepare a short song excerpt (about 18 bars) to demonstrate their vocal range and bring sheet music for the accompanist. The auditions will include a required dance audition for all actors as this is a highly physical production (though not everyone in the cast will dance.) Additional audition details are available at www.cottagetheatre.org or by calling Cottage Theatre at 541-942-8001. ### For Immediate Release
May 6, 2015 Contacts: Susan Goes, Executive Director, 541-942-8001 Proof opens at Cottage Theatre on June 12 Cottage Grove, OR — The third production in Cottage Theatre's 2015 season is Proof by David Auburn, which opens June 12th for a three-weekend run. This story of love, genius, and instability was the winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. On the eve of her 25th birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former graduate student of her father's from the University of Chicago who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness—or genius—will she inherit? Cottage Theatre's production of Proof is directed and designed by Alan Beck, with costume design by Chris Carter and lighting design by Amanda Ferguson. The four-person cast consists of Nicole Trobaugh as Catherine; Patrick Torelle as Catherine's father, Robert; Kory Weimer as the graduate student Hal; and Janet Whitlow as Catherine's older sister Claire. Proof runs for eleven performances at Cottage Theatre from June 12 - 28, 2015. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. This musical patchwork of pioneer life is the fourth production of Cottage Theatre's 2015 season. Quilters will run for three weekends beginning August 14. Based on true narratives of pioneer women, Quilters dramatizes the strenuous realities of 1800s frontier life. Prairie fires, twisters, starvation, and death are interspersed with lively, and often humorous, accounts of cabin construction, courtship, and childhood pranks. The patterns of life ─ the dark times contrasted with the light ─ are reflected in the women’s quilts, as are the connection, strength, and creativity they shared. A cast of nine women ranging in age from 20s to 70s is needed for this production directed by Eliza Roaring Springs. Quilters will run for 14 performances from August 14 - 30, 2015. These auditions are open to any interested women and no appointment is necessary. Actors should come ready to sing, dance, and play (loose clothing is recommended) and be there for several hours. Each actor will be asked to sing a song; folk, ballad, or hymn is suggested. Additional audition information is available at www.cottagetheatre.org or by calling Cottage Theatre at 541-942-8001. ### |
