Cottage Theatre announces auditions for Proof

Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre will hold auditions for David Auburn's 2001 Pulitzer prize-winning play Proof on Sunday, April 26 and Monday, April 27 at 6:30 pm. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. This story of love, genius and instability is the third production of Cottage Theatre's 2015 season. Proof will run for three weekends beginning June 12, 2015.

The story centers around Catherine, a troubled young woman who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former graduate student of her father's from the University of Chicago who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness—or genius—will she inherit?

A small cast of two men and two women is needed for this production directed by Alan Beck. Proof will run for 11 performances from June 12 - June 28, 2015.

These auditions are open to any interested actors and no appointment is necessary. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Audition information is available atwww.cottagetheatre.org or by calling Cottage Theatre at 541-942-8001.

Les Misérables opens at Cottage Theatre on April 10

Cottage Grove, OR — Opening at Cottage Theatre on April 10 is the epic musical of survival and redemption, Les Misérables. Based on the 19th century French novel by Victor Hugo, this musical was written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg. The show premiered in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987, where it won the Tony Award for Best Musical. It has since won over 100 international awards and been seen by more than 65 million people worldwide.

Les Misérables is a monumental story about the survival of the human spirit. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment for stealing a loaf of bread, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Epic, grand, and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled people all over the world.

Cottage Theatre's production of Les Misérables is directed and designed by Alan Beck, with Music Direction by Larry Kenton. Costume design is by Rhonda Turnquist  and lighting design is by Amanda Ferguson. The large cast stars Lanny Mitchell as Jean Valjean and Ward Fairbairn as Javert, along with Mandy Rose Nichols, Tracy Nygard, Kory Weimer, Mark Anderson, Melissa Miller, Mark Van Beever, Rebekah Hope, Michael Scott, Eric Elligott, Owen Hovet, Oceana Taylor, and Maia Wilhour in featured roles. The large cast of 30 will be accompanied by a live orchestra.

Les Misérables runs for fifteen performances at Cottage Theatre from April 10 - May 3, 2015. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm.

Tickets are available online at www.cottagetheatre.org, by phone at 541-942-8001, or in person at the Cottage Theatre Box Office, 700 Village Drive, Cottage Grove.
