May 23, 2014 Contacts: Susan Goes, Executive Director, (541)942-8001 Amanda Ferguson, Artistic Director, (541)409-2522 Cottage Theatre announces auditions for Assassins Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre will hold auditions for Assassins on Sunday, June 22 and Monday, June 23 at 6:30 pm both nights. This musical, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman, premiered at Playwrights Horizons in New York City in 1990, and was produced on Broadway in 2004, winning five Tony Awards. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. Bold, original, disturbing, and alarmingly funny, Assassins is among the most controversial musicals ever written. This quintessentially American show lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a historical revue that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. This show contains mature themes and language. A cast of 14 (10 men, 3 women, 1 boy age 8-10) is needed for this production. Assassins will run for 10 performances from October 3 - 19, 2014.Tony Rust is the director. These auditions are open to any interested actors and no appointment is necessary. Actors are asked to prepare 18 bars of a song in the style of Sondheim, and bring music for the pianist. Actors should also come prepared to give a 1-minute monologue. May 8, 2014 Contacts: Susan Goes, Executive Director, 541-942-8001 Amanda Ferguson, Artistic Director, 541-409-2522 Moon Over Buffalo opens at Cottage Theatre on June 13 Cottage Grove, OR — The madcap backstage comedy Moon Over Buffalo opens June 13 for a three-weekend run at Cottage Theatre. Written by Ken Ludwig, this play premiered on Broadway in 1995 and ran for more than 300 performances. The original New York production marked Carol Burnett's return to the Broadway stage after a 30-year absence; she garnered a Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in this play. Moon Over Buffalo is the third of six productions in Cottage Theatre's 2014 season, which continues through December. This hilarious story centers around Charlotte and George Hay, who are on tour at the Erlanger Theatre in Buffalo in 1953, with a repertory consisting of Cyrano de Bergerac (“revised, one nostril version”) and Noel Coward’s Private Lives. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might have one final shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing. Cottage Theatre's production of Moon Over Buffalo is directed by Janet Rust, with set design by FeO2, costume design by Rhonda Turnquist, and lighting design by Amanda Ferguson. Karen Snyder and Tony Rust lead the cast as Charlotte and George Hay. Also featured are Sophie Blades, Eric Elligott, Kory Weimer, Pauline Thorstenson, Bil Morrill, and Kara Istudor. Moon Over Buffalo runs for three weekends at Cottage Theatre from June 13 - 29, 2014. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. There will be one added Thursday performance on June 26 at 8:00 pm. Tickets go on sale May 13 and will be available online at www.cottagetheatre.org, by phone at 541-942-8001, or in person at the Cottage Theatre Box Office, 700 Village Drive, Cottage Grove. May 6, 2014 Contacts: Susan Goes, Executive Director, 541-942-8001 Amanda Ferguson, Artistic Director, 541-409-2522 Cottage Theatre announces auditions for A Flea in Her Ear Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre will hold auditions for A Flea in Her Ear on Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 pm and Monday, June 2 at 6:30 pm. The play, a classic French farce by Georges Feydeau, is presented in a new translation by David Ives. Auditions will be held in the Rehearsal Hall at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. This masterpiece of French farce is one of the funniest plays ever written. Madame Chandebise is worried that her husband Victor is secretly having an affair. To find out, she and her friend Lucienne plan a trap, sending an anonymous love letter suggesting a rendezvous at the shady Frisky Puss Hotel. Victor, believing the letter was intended for his colleaugue Romain Tournel, sends Tournel to the hotel in his place. Meanwhile, Lucienne's jealous Spanish husband finds the letter, recognizes his wife's handwriting, and takes his pistols to the Frisky Puss, hoping to catch her in the act. The plot is complicated by confused identities, revolving beds, a great many doors and the fact that the hotel porter, Poche, is the exact double of Victor Chandebise. A cast of 14 (9 men and 5 women) is needed for this production. A Flea in Her Ear will run for 10 performances from August 8 - 24, 2014. Alan Beck is the director. These auditions are open to any interested actors and no appointment is necessary. The auditions will consist of readings from the script.
