Cottage Theatre announces auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre will hold auditions for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on Sunday, November 8 at 1:00 pm. This hilarious musical romp through middle school will kick off the theatre's 34th season in late January 2016. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 700 Village Drive in Cottage Grove. Callbacks and movement auditions will take place at 4:00 pm the same afternoon.
A riotous ride complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius. Winner of the 2005 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, Spelling Bee has captivated audiences across the country with its unforgettable humor. An eclectic group of six awkward adolescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens (portrayed by adult actors) spell their way through a series of words hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Oh well, at least the losers get a juice box!
A cast of 3 adults and 6 young adults who can sing and dance is needed for this production directed by Mark VanBeever. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will run for 11 performances from January 29 - February 14, 2016.
These auditions are open to any interested actors and no appointment is necessary. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars of a Broadway-style song and bring sheet music for the accompanist. Additional audition details are available at www.cottagetheatre.org or by calling Cottage Theatre at 541-942-8001.
