For Immediate Release November 21, 2016 Contact: Susan Goes, Executive Director, 541-942-8001 A Christmas Story opens December 2 at Cottage Theatre Cottage Grove, OR -- Cottage Theatre concludes its 2016 season with a delightfully funny play that is a special holiday treat for the whole family. A Christmas Story, written by Philip Grecian and based upon the 1983 movie of the same name, will run for three weekends at Cottage Theatre from December 2 through 18. It’s Hohman, Indiana, 1938, and Christmas is on its way – lovely, beautiful, glorious Christmas, around which the entire kid year revolves – and young Ralphie Parker desperately wants a genuine Red Ryder BB gun. His mother, teacher, and even Santa Claus aren’t so sure it’s a good idea. But Ralphie, undaunted, goes to great lengths to promote his case for what he’s sure will be the “best Christmas present ever.” Based on humorist Jean Shepherd’s stories about growing up in the Midwest, A Christmas Story will warm the hearts of everyone in your family. Cottage Theatre's production of A Christmas Story is directed by Eliza Roaring Springs, with costume design by Melissa Cooper, lighting design by Ward Fairbairn, and set design by Tony Rust. The cast features K.D. Carver as young Ralphie Parker and Brian Bull as adult Ralph Parker, who serves as narrator to the story. Rounding out the cast of thirteen are Alex Bull, Hailey Bull, Abigail Earlywine, A.J. Earlywine, Cedar Earlywine, Kim Fairbairn, Ward Fairbairn, Bryce Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Karen Snyder, and Piper Youngmayr. A Christmas Story runs for eleven performances at Cottage Theatre from December 2 - 18. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm, and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. No appointment is necessary. Roles are available for approximately 16 actors, both male and female, ages late teens through sixties. Tony Rust directs this production which will be on stage for three weekends, February 3 - 19, 2017. A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, Peter and the Starcatcher provides a fantastical backstory for the century-old character of Peter Pan. In this wickedly imaginative play, a nameless orphan and his mates are shipped off from England to a distant island. At sea, “Boy” is befriended by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that a mysterious trunk in the Captain’s cabin contains a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by the fearsome Black Stache, the journey quickly becomes a high-stakes adventure. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair – and the bonds of friendship, duty, and love. Interested actors are asked to come prepared to sing a pirate or drinking song in either a British or pirate accent, and to deliver a short Shakespeare verse. The audition will also include group improvisation exercises and readings from the script. First-timers are very welcome; no previous stage experience is necessary to audition. Further audition details, including a detailed character breakdown, are available at www.cottagetheatre.org, or by calling Cottage Theatre at 541-942-8001. ### |
