Moon Over Buffalo opens at Cottage Theatre on June 13
Cottage Grove, OR — The madcap backstage comedy Moon Over Buffalo opens June 13 for a three-weekend run at Cottage Theatre. Written by Ken Ludwig, this play premiered on Broadway in 1995 and ran for more than 300 performances. The original New York production marked Carol Burnett's return to the Broadway stage after a 30-year absence; she garnered a Tony Award for Best Actress for her role in this play. Moon Over Buffalo is the third of six productions in Cottage Theatre's 2014 season, which continues through December.
This hilarious story centers around Charlotte and George Hay, who are on tour at the Erlanger Theatre in Buffalo in 1953, with a repertory consisting of Cyrano de Bergerac (“revised, one nostril version”) and Noel Coward’s Private Lives. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might have one final shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing.
Cottage Theatre's production of Moon Over Buffalo is directed by Janet Rust, with set design by FeO2, costume design by Rhonda Turnquist, and lighting design by Amanda Ferguson. Karen Snyder and Tony Rust lead the cast as Charlotte and George Hay. Also featured are Sophie Blades, Eric Elligott, Kory Weimer, Pauline Thorstenson, Bil Morrill, and Kara Istudor.
Moon Over Buffalo runs for three weekends at Cottage Theatre from June 13 - 29, 2014. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. There will be one added Thursday performance on June 26 at 8:00 pm.
