Les Misérables opens at Cottage Theatre on April 10
Cottage Grove, OR — Opening at Cottage Theatre on April 10 is the epic musical of survival and redemption, Les Misérables. Based on the 19th century French novel by Victor Hugo, this musical was written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg. The show premiered in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987, where it won the Tony Award for Best Musical. It has since won over 100 international awards and been seen by more than 65 million people worldwide.
Les Misérables is a monumental story about the survival of the human spirit. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment for stealing a loaf of bread, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Epic, grand, and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled people all over the world.
Cottage Theatre's production of Les Misérables is directed and designed by Alan Beck, with Music Direction by Larry Kenton. Costume design is by Rhonda Turnquist and lighting design is by Amanda Ferguson. The large cast stars Lanny Mitchell as Jean Valjean and Ward Fairbairn as Javert, along with Mandy Rose Nichols, Tracy Nygard, Kory Weimer, Mark Anderson, Melissa Miller, Mark Van Beever, Rebekah Hope, Michael Scott, Eric Elligott, Owen Hovet, Oceana Taylor, and Maia Wilhour in featured roles. The large cast of 30 will be accompanied by a live orchestra.
Les Misérables runs for fifteen performances at Cottage Theatre from April 10 - May 3, 2015. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm.
Tickets are available online at www.cottagetheatre.org, by phone at 541-942-8001, or in person at the Cottage Theatre Box Office, 700 Village Drive, Cottage Grove. Tickets are $26 for adults and $22 for youth (age 6 to 18). Box Office hours are Wednesday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm, and one hour before performances.
