Cottage Theatre opens 32nd season on January 31 with Almost, Maine
Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre kicks off its 2014 season on January 31 with a production of Almost, Maine by John Cariani. This play received its world premiere in 2004 and has since been produced by more than 2,000 theatre companies in the US and abroad, making it one of the most-frequently produced plays of the last decade. It is currently enjoying its first Off-Broadway revival in New York City.
Almost, Maine is the inaugural production of Cottage Theatre's 32nd season, a season which runs from January 31 through December 21, 2014 and includes three plays and three musicals. Other shows in the community theatre's season are Fiddler on the Roof (April 4-27), Moon Over Buffalo (June 13-29), A Flea in Her Ear (August 8-24), Assassins (October 3-19), and She Loves Me (December 5-21).
Almost, Maine is a play about love and longing, friendship and isolation, melancholy and hope. The setting is a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter in the mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. The nine short, and sometimes quirky, vignettes all have a fable-like quality and the sweet simplicity of stories being told around a New England campfire.
Cottage Theatre's production of Almost, Maine is directed by Eliza Roaring Springs, who also co-designed the set with Omar Nelson. Lighting is by Amanda Ferguson and costumes are by Melissa Cooper. The cast features (in alphabetical order) Mark Allen, Carmen Dowell, Eric Elligott, Kim Fairbairn, Dale Flynn, Carson Frost, Dave Kessler, Charles Mattoon, Tracy Miller, Zachary Nailon, Tracy Nygard, Karen Snyder, and Marina Zeleny.
Almost, Maine runs for three weekends at Cottage Theatre from January 31 - February 16, 2014. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. There will be an added Thursday performance closing weekend, on February 13 at 8:00 pm.
