Cottage Theatre closes 2014 season with She Loves Me December 5-21
Cottage Grove, OR — Cottage Theatre closes its 32nd season in December with a heart-warming musical romance created by the same composer/lyricist team responsible for Fiddler on the Roof. Written in 1963, She Loves Me is based on a 1937 play by Hungarian playwright Miklos Laszlo. This same play also inspired the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner and the 1998 movie You've Got Mail starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Cottage Theatre's production of She Loves Me opens on Friday, December 5 for a three-weekend run through December 21.
This version of the Laszlo story is set in the 1930s, as was the original play. Georg and Amalia are two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, little knowing their respective correspondents are none other than each other. Funny, intelligent, honest and sentimental, She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia, yet as universal and relevant as ever in this age of internet romances.
Cottage Theatre's production of She Loves Me is directed by Ron Judd, with music direction by Larry Kenton, and choreography by Laura Hiszczynskyj. Set design is by Janet Whitlow, costume design is by Rhonda Turnquist and lighting design by Amanda Ferguson. Leading the cast as George and Amalia are Eric Elligott and Phoebe Gildea. Also featured are Paul von Rotz as shop owner Mr. Maraczek, Kim Fairbairn as Ilona Ritter, Earl Ruttencutter as Ladislav Sipos, Mark Van Beever as Steven Kodaly, Bradyn Debysingh as Arpad Laszlo, and George Comstock as the Cafe Imperiale Waiter. Rounding out the cast are Jack Lemhouse, Ward Fairbairn, Bil Morrill, Steve Knight, Zoe Muellner, Robyn Rothstein, Stefhani Anderson, Siv Serene, Susan Goes, and Amber Brower.
She Loves Me runs for three weekends at Cottage Theatre from December 5 - 21, 2014. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm.
